14st 10lbs

I've only lost 1 pound in a week and a half. This is due to a couple of nights of boozing and partying. At least I'm still going in the right direction.

Stuff will get harder as my birthday, christmas and new year roll on. I still intend to keep the healthy eating going through out. If I can restrict myself to excess on those 3 days only, I reckon I should be able to break even over the holiday season.

Also, I thought I should comment on calorie counting. It obviously works but not for me. Restricting my limits to just calories alone, I find myself actually eating more in an attempt to reach my calorie limit each day. This is what hampered my first abortive attempts at weight loss when I was approaching 19 stone. Basically, I say just eat healthy. Most of us know what is good for you and what is not apart from a bloke at work who eats tons of Jaffa Cakes saying they are healthy. He's on 12 a day and is 17 stone...
There was a recent advertising campaign saying that McD*nald's fries were made from nothing but potatoes...

WRONG!

The chips are processes and part-fried in one country, usually in beef tallow, flown halfway round the world, soaked in dextrose often contaminated with gluten and drenched in huge amounts of salt. And that is before they get to the outlets, deepfried and drenched in salt again and left for hours under a heat lamp.

Mmm... tasty. My arteries are clogging up just thinking about it.

Breaking News

I'm now using a new notch on my belt! This, of course, is good physical evidence that my healthy eating regime is working properly. I find little triumphs like this SO much more satisfying than just losing a couple of pounds each week.

I'm going to treat myself to something nice. Don't know what but I'll let you know. And no, it's not the Mr T sound box... that is already in the post :)

Lost another 2 pounds so it's all good and I've still not gone into mental healthy eating mode yet but orange food is becoming scarce in my kitchen.

According to this report obesity levels are soaring in this country. At this rate, 40% of people in the UK will be obese within a single generation.

So what is obese? If your Body Mass Index is over 30.0 kilograms per cubic meter, you are classified as obese. I worked mine out on this online tool. I am at 28.3 so I am not classified as obese (phew...) I did once have a BMI of 36.0 so I'm doing good to be where I am. If your BMI is at 20.0 to 25.0 then you are at a healthy weight. I need to get to a weight of 12 stone to have a BMI of 22.8 but I reckon that is to low for me so 12 stone 6 pounds will probably do which is 3 pounds below the target I set myself 2 weeks ago.

Somehow, all this scientific stuff and numbers doesn't seem right when it comes to people's weight but I suppose they have to classify stuff properly for their statistics.

14st 13lbs

Not bad going. I lost three pounds since my last weigh in. So far I'm not going hyper mental with the heathly eating. That is I'm not snacking at all and my meals are mostly the same except I make sure I have breakfast and my evening meals are more salad and veggy than orange food. I'm sure the breakfast is making me hungrier but I put that down to the fact that my metabolism is kicking into gear earlier in the day now. I have looked at what I am eating again and my evening meals are relatively low in carbohydrates which means that I have the most energy intake early in the day when needed and I can burn it off as the day goes on.

So the current plan is to continue like this until I get to my target and if I stop losing weight before that I can take it to another level.

On another front, my baccy reserves are getting low...

15st 2lbs

I've got myself a new set of scales. According to the last scales, which were a pikey cheap set from SuperBuys, I had lost between 1 and 8 pounds. The new set however measured the same every time, which is good.

So, even though it looks like I put on 2 pounds (1-3/4 to be precise) but I have been eating right this week and I can feel that I've lost a bit of weight. The veggies I've been eating have had a positive effect on my general well-being too... apart from the mammoth poos I'm now doing. I might be able to send something in to rate my poo.

[definition at dictionary.com]

So perhaps that little outburst yesterday against the word diet was a tad wierd. I apologise. Probably lack of chocolate. As you can see, the first definition is what I will be mostly referring to.

And it's still going okay.

27 October 2003

It's gone okay today. This is what I've eaten:-

Breakfast
Two slices of toast thinly spread with half fat Flora and tons of Marmite
Lunch
One ham and lettuce sandwich with half fat mayo and no butter, cherry tomatoes, Minibabybel, two apples, banana, Go Ahead choccy bar.
Dinner
Two cheese, spring onion and chive crispbakes, tons of green beans and cauliflower, low fat Mullerice.
Snack
Big lettuce, carrot and red cabbage salad with low fat dressing.
Drinks
Four teas with sweetener and skimmed milk, robinsons peach fruit and barley, one Options hot chocolate.

As you can see, there is definite room for improvement but I've managed to get through today without snacking badly which will be the first hurdle. If I can keep that up for a week then I'll be happy. Once I've done that I'll start removing some of the more unhealthy foods from my everyday meals.

My basic tactics are to eventually eat like a gorilla (I was watching Animal Planet earlier.) That means I'm going to eat so many veggies that there will be no space for anything else.

Also, I've had to edit the comments posted in the blog post below. I'm trying to convince myself that I'm not dieting (last time I'm using that word for a while...) but eating healthily. The thing that has become apparent to me is that once I have lost the weight I still have to watch what I eat because I've put on over two stone in the space of eighteen months.

Here Goes Nothing

Well, hopefully I've flicked the right switch in my head and the first stage of my health kick will be underway tomorrow.

I'm going to lose some weight through healthy eating to start with. I am currently dead on 15 stone and that is a bit much. At my lightest, I was recorded at 12 stone and 9 pounds and was possibly a bit lighter so I am going to aim for that.

At my heaviest, I was about 19 stone. This was right after Glastonbury 2000. I saw a few photos of me and though "Oops, I really am a right fat bloater!" I have a feeling that I am on my way there right now so I have to do something about it. For those of you who know what it is like, I have got to the stage where my clothes aren't fitting right any more and if I get much bigger I am going to have to get a whole new wardrobe. Trust me, it is only nice to get a new wardrobe when you are heading to OTHER way...
